Doesn’t hurt to ask…

A couple of months back, I started a blog about whisky. I don’t really know very much about the stuff, except that I’ve grown to quite like it and it’s a really interesting and complex subject that combines history, geography, science, economics, folklore and sociology. And while I don’t drink it to study, finding out stuff about it makes it more interesting to me.
I shut the site down the other day when I started this blog, and I’d only posted six or seven times. But it’s amazing what picking a topic and saying stuff about it can do.
I had joked that my one year aim with the whisky blog was to get sent free samples. But this is what I got instead:
Hi,Just wondered if you got my invite to the Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve 1976 Tasting afternoon on the 27th of September?
Please do let me know if you can make it.
Hope you can,
Blaire
I replied:
Hi Blaire,No, I didn’t. I’m sure that’s something I would definitely have noticed. Not sure what happened there, but it sounds like exactly the sort of thing I would like to attend.
Sadly, I’m teaching an undergraduate class that afternoon, so will not be able to make the train journey down to London. However, should you wish to send me a bottle so I can hold a small private tasting in Birmingham among my fellow Midlands-based single malt enthusiasts, I would be more than happy to write the occasion up on my blog.
Good to hear from you.
Cheers,
Andrew
Not expecting a response to that, but if the boldness of a complete unschooled amateur waffling about some drinks he’s had half a dozen times warrants contact from a PR agency, then maybe trying it on a bit’s not such a bad idea.
And I meant every word. He sends me a bottle, you’ll sure as hell hear about it.
What are you going to start a blog about?
