Postcard 1: Dunedin

Otago University
Otago University on a dreary South Island day

After a day’s jetlag recovery (insufficient, as it happens), I jumped on a plane to Dunedin where I was giving a presentation to the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) at their annual Antipodean chapter conference.

Otago campus is stunningly beautiful, especially without all the scarfies clogging up the scenery. The conference was interesting — particularly a musicological comparison between the music of The White Stripes and that of classic garage band The Sonics.

I stayed at the University’s Executive Residence (which is exactly as flash as it sounds) and was fed and watered in a manner to which I would like to become accustomed.

Having a wonderful time, wish you were here.

Right now:

Reminding myself how awesome Arve Henriksen records are.
