Postcard 5: Real Groovy Records

Real Groovy
This is where I like to leave all my money

Here’s something I missed about New Zealand: Real Groovy Records. For decades, this place has been my shopping mecca. They’re a bit stingy when you’re trading your records in, and they can be a bit pricey on the new stuff, but there is nowhere better if you’re looking around for somewhere to get stuck in and do a serious rummage.

Because I’m seriously in tourist mode at the moment, I made a beeline for the kiwi stuff, to try and catch up on the local popular culture.

I bought the Tiki Taane album (wow), the SJD record (finally) and the latest Dimmer album (how could I not?). I also picked up Grant Smithies’ book, which I’m absolutely loving to bits and recommend unreservedly, and I also grabbed the first two seasons of Outrageous Fortune on DVD for Bobbie.

Don’t tell her — it’s a surprise.

Having a wonderful time, etc.

Right now:

Reminding myself how awesome Arve Henriksen records are.
